Story Of Help
Hall MBE and Loraine McKinley have for some time been involved in trying to enhance
the quality of Hoylake life. They canvass local opinion and try to prevent
unsuitable developments from ruining the town. They felt that Hoylake needed a
forum to inform residents and groups, gather news and promote events.
When a shop in a
suitable central location became empty towards the end of 2011, they secured a
grant for £6,500 to take it over for 12 months and refurbish it. The grant
covered outgoings such as rent, electricity, insurance, telephone, stationery
costs and internet use. It was hoped that sales of items of interest would
supplement donations to enable the shop to continue to be viable after the
initial monies had been spent.
fact, the shop was able to stay open until 2015. However, its running costs could
not be maintained further, so it had to close at the end of September 2015. Its
volunteers now man a desk in Hoylake Library during its opening hours (see the Home page).
