The revival of
Melrose Hall began in March 1999 after it had been closed for 2 years and was
facing demolition. Jackie Hall and a team of volunteers acted quickly to save
the Hall. On a wing and a prayer, they re-opened it in September 1999. They
have worked continually ever since raising money to refurbish it. So far,
£65,000 has been raised for work done by volunteers and kind Business Friends.
As a result, the hall has been rewired, electrical heating and hot water
plumbing installed, new toilets fitted and the food preparation area fully
refurbished. Double-glazing, Fire Alarm and Security Alarm Systems have also
been installed. The stage has been improved. Curtains, carpets, tables and
chairs have all been replaced and the accommodation redecorated. The roofs over
the halls have been renewed and the floors throughout have been re-laid to the
latest specification. We estimate that the value of the work done is in excess
